Double O in the Bond world

Where to begin

Read Double or Nothing, A Spy Like Me and Hurricane Room in that order. Sherwood’s contemporary trilogy follows the wider Double O service while Bond is missing. It has its own continuing team and investigations, so starting with book three loses the developing context. This is an ensemble route after Fleming rather than another solo 007 mission.

Reading order

1. Double or Nothing (2022)

   With James Bond missing and presumed dead, Moneypenny sends Double O agents Sid Bashir, Johanna Harwood and Joseph Dryden into the field. Their mission to infiltrate Rattenfänger and investigate billionaire Bertram Paradise begins Sherwood’s trilogy about the wider service operating without its most famous agent.

2. A Spy Like Me (2024)

   After a bombing at the BBC, MI6 receives warning of another attack in six days. Three Double O agents pursue the network across international locations while the search also draws them towards the missing Bond.

3. Hurricane Room (2026)

   Joanna Harwood has found Bond and must extract him from Russia while rebuilding his trust and confronting his determination to pursue revenge. With the Double O section badly damaged, its remaining agents must work together against Mora, Rattenfänger and a threat to Western cyber-intelligence.
