The story, without spoilers

Joanna Harwood has found Bond and must get him out of Russia while rebuilding his trust. He wants revenge on Mora, the figure behind Rattenfänger. With the Double O section badly damaged, the remaining agents must work together against a threat to Western cyber-intelligence.

The return of Bond makes this a conclusion to the search begun in Double or Nothing. It does not erase the importance of the other agents: loyalty within the damaged team remains part of the final confrontation.

Read Double or Nothing and A Spy Like Me first. This is the third and final Double O novel, and its starting situation reveals developments from both earlier books.

What stands out

Bond's return gives the trilogy its closing turn, but the ensemble is still essential. Choose it to finish Sherwood's sequence rather than as a standalone introduction to her version of MI6.

Who wrote it

Sherwood, a novelist and creative-writing lecturer, was commissioned to expand the Double O world in the trilogy that includes Hurricane Room. Her grandfather George Baker appeared in the Bond films.

Hurricane Room is part of a contemporary Double O trilogy about the wider service. Bond’s absence drives the ensemble story; these books are not inserted into Fleming’s original chronology.
