Where to begin

For a first read, use publication order: Trigger Mortis, Forever and a Day, With a Mind to Kill. For Bond’s life order, use Forever and a Day before Casino Royale, Trigger Mortis after Goldfinger, then With a Mind to Kill after The Man with the Golden Gun. Read Fleming first to recognise the links without losing the original novels’ surprises.

Reading order

1. Trigger Mortis (2015)

   Soon after his encounter with Goldfinger, Bond investigates a Soviet plan to sabotage a Grand Prix race and discovers a wider threat. Pussy Galore returns, while American agent Jeopardy Lane helps Bond pursue Korean millionaire Jai Seong Sin beyond the racetrack.

2. Forever and a Day (2018)

   After an agent carrying the number 007 is killed in Marseille, James Bond must investigate and earn his place in the service. The French Riviera’s cars, casinos and yachts conceal a dangerous criminal network in Horowitz’s account of Bond before Casino Royale.

3. With a Mind to Kill (2022)

   At M’s funeral, Bond is absent and accused of the killing, while former SMERSH agents seek to use him in a Soviet operation. Following Fleming’s brainwashing aftermath, Horowitz places doubts about Bond’s own judgement alongside a mission capable of changing the balance of power.
